II.
Trop., of discourse, to drink in, Plaut. Mil. Gl. 3, 3, 10 (cf. devorare dicta, id. As. 3, 3, 59, and Ov. Tr. 3, 5, 14; Sid. Carm. 16, 126).—Hence of instruction, to drink in eagerly, to listen to attentively:

nunc adbibe puro Pectore verba, puer,

Hor. Ep. 1, 2, 67.
